EARTHLINGS

Issue XII of 212 Magazine features snippets from the lives of earthlings, who inhabit the folds of this fragile crust.

Blue ball, green sphere, pale blue dot… Instead of broadening our understanding of the universe, the communities we live in and ourselves, such metaphors tend to have an asphyxiating effect. The tone and brightness of its colour are irrelevant, what matters is that we do not live on top of that sphere, but within the layers of its skin. As Vonnegut said, ‘We are trapped in the amber of this moment. There is no why.’ Remember that the conditions, that make life possible, lie within a thin crust that covers the Earth’s surface.
